Atomic Spring Shawl is my first magazine pattern! You’ll find it in Crochet Now Issue 14 and once the rights revert back to me I’ll make it available on ravelry. So excited!

In the mag it’s called “Spring Stole My Heart” as Crochet Now! like interesting names. I’ve always referred to it as my Atomic Shawl so I’ve renamed it a hybrid of both.

The brief for this design was all to do with retro, outdoor Spring vibes. I wanted to create a wrap reminiscent of the 50s stole. It features my interpretation of an “atomic” stitch pattern and takes inspiration for the colour and border shape from retro VW camper vans.

You can wear the wrap across the back and shoulders, around the neck like a scarf, over the shoulders like a shawl, draped loose or secured with a shawl pin, which makes it versatile and useful all throughout Spring and in the cooler months as well.

As my first magazine pattern I was quite nervous, and I’ve been waiting for a while for the issue to come out. The styling is gorgeous, I couldn’t have hoped for a better experience, especially as it’s also on the front cover!

The yarn used in the magazine was supplied by Sirdar and is the gorgeous Sublime Extra Fine Merino Worsted in “Botanica” green. I chose this yarn specifically for the amazing colour. Sometimes you get the yarn you choose, sometimes you’re asked to use a different yarn depending on the magazine’s articles and advertisers. I got lucky!

Alternative yarns with similar colours would include Caron simply soft in Cool Green and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino in Jade.
However you could use any aran/worsted weight yarn in whatever colour you like.

Get the pattern in Issue 14 Crochet Now! on the 20th April or follow me on instagram to find out when you can buy the pattern on Ravelry and Love Crochet.
